Latched Support is a beacon of hope amidst food deserts, economic insecurities, inadequate access to prenatal care, insurance, lactation support, and parenting education that all impact the health and wellbeing of families in our community. Because of their work and their mission, Latched Support has positively impacted over 2,500 mothers annually for the last five years.
San Antonio continues to have one of the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the nation. Also, despite a growing population, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) mothers and infants continue to experience higher rates of infant mortality, preterm birth, low birth weight, pregnancy depression, postpartum depression, as well as severe maternal mortality and morbidity than other racial groups, according to the Texas Health and Human Services.
